Midwife Appointment 5.0

We had our 5th midwife appointment yesterday. I was pretty nervous going into it, because I was being tested for gestational diabetes and to make sure my iron levels were okay. I had to drink my "Glucose Cola", as it was called, an hour before the appointment at home. I chose fruit punch at my last visit, and it wasn't that bad. Sugary. Red. Fruity. Punchy. And flat. It tasted like it used to be carbonated.

The first few minutes of our appointment was in the lab on the doctor's office side (the midwives are down the hall in their own offices). As the nurse stabbed my finger for blood (and I slipped out an "Ow!" like a 5-year-old), another nurse was on the phone with someone. While the nurse collected a little blood sample from my finger, the nurse on the phone said "So, is it coming out of your vagina or your rectum?" R started laughing, which caused my nurse to start laughing. Gotta love that. A couple of minutes later, and the nurse said I was free and clear of gestational diabetes. Hooray!

After that we headed down the hall to see my midwife. I was dreading weighing myself, but I didn't gain the 10lbs I was sure I had gained in the past month, just the normal 4lbs I should have gained. Another victory! I don't know how that happened. I have been eating like a crazy person, but I guess it's good that I've been sticking to the healthy stuff for the most part.

I was given all kinds of information to start preparing for the big day (eek!). My midwife gave me a birth plan to fill out, and I have to make an appointment to go fill out all of my paperwork at the hospital sometime in July/beginning of August. Blech. Paperwork. And to top it all off, the little guy is measuring exactly where he should be for 28 weeks, so we're on track (did you know the uterus measures in cm how many weeks you are. IE: I'm 28 weeks, so my uterus is 28 cm. Fun!). From now on we'll have to go to the midwife every two weeks.

I left the appointment feeling pretty good about everything, so we went to celebrate with lunch and Yogurtini afterwards. Two hours later I crashed, and I crashed hard. I could barely stay away the rest of the day. Thank you, sugar overload.
